  GOODVILLE - Founded 1815. Named for Peter Good, early landowner and settler. An insurance company based in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania by the name of the Goodville Mutual Casualty Company, takes its name from Goodville. GREENCASTLE - Founded 1750. Named for Greencastle in the North of Ireland (County Donegal, Northern Island) where many of the first settlers to Greencastle came from. Greencastle is located at the intersection of the old Baltimore and Carlisle Pikes, and is home to the oldest continuously operating drug store in the United States, Carl's Drug Store, which opened in 1825. GILLETT - Founded 1783. This village in Bradford County just south of Elmira, New York was named for Deacon Asa Gillette, a pioneer settler.  Over time, the 'e' at the end of Gillette's name would be dropped as it is on the keystone. GRATERFORD - Founded 1756. Named for Jacob Kreater, an early settler.  The Montgomery County village was originally called Grater's Ford (at least into the 1870's) but would be later changed to its current spelling sometime after.

GREEN LANE - Founded 1749.  Simply named after the green foliage on the trees that lined the road.  Nearby, Green Lane Park is a popular year-round destination.

GRATZ - Founded in 1805. Named for Simon Gratz, an early settler.

(Fred Yenerall, 1975) With the recent passing of legendary musician, Glen Campbell, it's only fitting to share a post about the Pennsylvania village that shares his name.  The tiny Indiana County village of about 250 was founded in 1889 and named after Cornelius Campbell who was a superintendent with the Glenwood Coal Company. The borough flourished in the late 19th and early 20th century with over 1600 residents at the time of the 1900 census.  However, the town was hit hard by the Great Depression and never recovered.  The more famous Campbell made a surprise visit to Glen Campbell in 1971 giving the town its own five minutes of fame. 

Established 1906.  The former Greenwood Tree Nursery would be the predecessor to Greenwood Furnace State Park.  The nursery would operate from 1906 until 1993.  Greenwood Furnace State Park was established in 1925.
