Manns Choice

MANNS CHOICE - Founded 1848.  This Bedford County town is named after Job Mann, who served as a United States Congressman from 1835-1837 and 1847-1851.  In 1848, Mann lobbied for the establishment of a Post Office within the then unnamed village.  He was successful in getting a Post Office established here.  However, there was not a name for the village, and Mann would be responsible for selecting a name.  Postal maps listed the town as "Mann's Choice" as a temporary name, as it was his choice for the location.  The name stuck - though the apostrophe would be dropped sometime later.
